I have never been a fan of this style of can opener. I have always preferred the type which cuts into the edge of the can and leaves no sharp edges. The problem with those can openers (and I have had several) is that the cutting blade wears down rather quickly and will then only deeply score the edge of the can, but won't cut through it. The only solution is to replace the opener. It got so bad that I started buying them two at a time and I'm only opening a few cans a week!Enter the OXO can opener... It securely grabs the edge of the can and cuts deeply and cleanly down through the top. I like the big handles which makes it easy to hold as well as easy to twist the opener to do the job. I still don't like the sharp edges, but this opener has outlasted several of the side cutting can openers I've had!I previously had what I thought was the world's best can opener. It was a Zyliss brand manual can opener that was a dream to use and took little to no effort. It has aged however and, though it had a good 12 to 15 year run, it had recently becomevery difficult to use. I looked for the same model and the closest I could find was this OXO brand. I thought surely the good reviews had to be exaggerated, but even if only half were true it should still be an okay opener. So, I tried this OXO for the first time today and it is great!! It's even more ergonomic than my previous favorite, it seems very sturdy, and it was really effortless to use. It bites through the cans with a very decisive puncture and a very audible & resounding snap. This thing means business!!! It actually startled me on first use. It was then so easy to turn thanks to the giant comfy knob, and it opened my two cans quite quickly and smoothly and with no effort at all on my part. I'm also impressed by the wonderful finish on this and it looks like it should hold up well against moisture and take a long time to rust, if ever. It's very substantial in its build and seems to be made of quality materials. So happy to have tried this. I think I like it even better than my old one. And it's so easy on my hands!I had a horrible can opener before this one that would just stop working in the middle of use and couldn’t cut through the labels. This one is easy to turn and glides through the can like it’s nothing! It’s such a simple thing but this makes things so much easier and less of a nuisance when I have to open cans.I bought one for myself after a kitchenaide or fraudulent version broke. Oxo is alway reliable. Works great!! Bought one for my two daughters’ first home.Purchased this to replace another can opener that only lasted 2 weeks. This can opener works great. It is very easy to use and I was surprised by how easy it is to turn the handle while opening a can. Works great on large cans and small cans. I am also pleased with how easy it is to clean after use. I would purchase it again.I've had mine for a couple years and just ordered another one for my mom who has arthritis in her hands. These things have great quality and big handles so you don't have to try to make a small fist to grip them. They also work very smoothly and with less effort than a lot of can openers. The only drawback is it was pretty expensive for a can opener but it is definitely worth the money over time.Bought for an aging couple who had trouble with their hands -- made life easier.I wish all of my kitchen tools worked as well is this basic can opener. Great value for the money. Will look for this manufacturer when I make purchases in the future.Pleas beware if you buy check item. As mine was a fake not as described. Will be sending to trading standards... I ordered an OXO opener , not what I received !!!!!Be very carful when ordering from this supplier this is not oxo can opener, but a very cheap copy it is nothing like the quality of the oxo brand products,i will throw this item away and purchase one from a local supplierSo far, it is still working and looks like it will continue to do so. I have had so many disappointments with can openers that I have needed therapy. Therefore have felt the need to express an opinion on a 'kitchen utensil' to excise the demons in my head. If you are suffering from persistent 'can opener failure' or C.O.F. then I recommend this little beauty to solve your problems. It does exactly to tins what it should do; i.e. open them. As a bonus it does not fall apart having performed the task once. Now nurse back to the padded cell I need to rest.I have had hundreds of tin openers in my life, from cheap metal ones to super expensive easy open ones. This is the ONLY one that has actually worked without leaving bits of un-cut metal that required me to bend the half-opened lid with a spoon to access the contents.Fake product! This is not OXO, do not buy! Amazon issued a refund and I will put In the bin.I have other OXO utensils and they are high quality this is extremely low.
