This CD was recorded at Angola Penitentiary by Harry Oster in Louisiana during the 1950s and 60s. Robert Pete was in prison for murder. He told me he had to kill the man because he was going to kill him. The fact that it was a Black man he killed and not a white man was the reason he was not executed. Oster delivered Robert Pete's pardon song to the governor and a year later he was pardoned.
