I've been a huge fan of Simple Human products for years. They are best known for their trash cans, but they make so many great household items that we use in our home. Shower caddies, soap dispensers, makeup mirrors, and even toilet plungers! All fantastic. Their products tend to cost a bit more, but they're always high quality and extremely durable. This butterfly trash can is no exception.I decided to purchase this particular trash can because we have such limited space in our kitchen. We needed something narrow with a lid, but the lid had to also be compact. Most trash cans with hinged lids have the hinge part sticking out of the back. Not only do those hinges take up space, it creates a gap that prevents the trash can from sitting perfectly flush against a wall.Given our very narrow and restrictive space, I knew finding a trash can that would fit could prove difficult. I also knew I may not have the luxury of choosing a specific brand, because the dimensions were more important. In the end this butterfly trash can seemed to be the only one that would work. However, the price is WAY higher than I have ever paid for a receptacle that holds my garbage. Even now I feel sick just thinking about what I paid for it. But at least it works and fits where I needed it to go.It wasn't just that this trash can fit the space, it is also the butterfly lid design that makes it even more perfectly suited for tight and narrow spaces. We have a couple of the smaller butterfly trash cans in our bathrooms, which I love, and it really is a genius design. Because the lid will never exceed the dimensions of the trash can itself, except for the height obviously. So it's not just a cool-looking gimmick; it actually serves a useful purpose, especially if you're working with limited space. I also really appreciate the removable insert that holds the trash. This makes it really easy to change the bags, once again, when you have limited space or access to maneuver the entire receptacle without it being a giant pain in the you-know-what.So yeah, it's a great trash can. I'm not sure that any trash can justifies this kind of price, but it certainly does a good job of holding my garbage. Having said that, I paid a 5-star price for a 4-star trash can (in my opinion). It's ALMOST perfect, but not quite. I have two relatively minor complaints about it. First, I wish it was a standard 13 gallon size like our old trash can. Knowing that we would fill a 13 gallon in one week, I was initially concerned that we'd have to replace the bags more often. Luckily that turned out not to be the case, but only BARELY. Seriously, it's enough for 7 days for the two of us, but it would not make it to 8 days. But there is still a bit of room in the trash bag once removed to fit in some extra items before tossing it out should it be necessary.My second complaint, again relatively minor, has to do with the coolest feature: the butterfly lid. Our previous trash can, also by Simple Human and with a hinged lid, had the option to keep the lid open if you wanted. Having that option was useful for a couple of reasons. First, it prevents garbage from touching the lid once it starts to get pretty full. I use this brand's liners which aren't cheap, so I want to make sure those bags are FULL. The second reason having the lid stay open is it allows you to air it out. Closed lids are great for keeping trash concealed and containing smells, but those smells hit you in the face the second that lid opens. And quite often those smells linger inside the can even after removing the trash. So I clean it often, and like to have the lid stay open after I clean it so that everything's dry and fresh again. But the only way to keep the lid open on this is to press the foot pedal. This means I need to find some object that's heavy enough to sit on the pedal, because obviously I'm not going to stand on it all day. Other than those two things, and the price, it's a great trash can.I wish I could give 10 stars. We have 2 large dogs, my hubby's service dog is a very big black lab, and our other dog is a golden retiever mix. They would both constantly get into the garbage all day long, no matter what we did to keep them out. We looked at a ton of different garbage cans before deciding to try this one. I wasn't happy that I was spending so much money on a garbage can, but we were desperate. I'm so glad we bought this one, and it's very much worth the price! We've had it for a couple months now, and they haven't been able to get into it at all. It's very sturdy, and has a large capacity. I highly recommend this garbage can, especially if you have sneaky dogs like we do. You won't regret this purchase!I liked the bigger size for our kitchen. I like that the liner comes out. Well-designed over all. We had the same brand trash can in a smaller size for 15 years. I was pleasantly surprised how well the bigger size worked.This can is a good solution for sorting trash and recycling with a small footprint. The trash portion is a bit smaller than the standard 13 gallon can but I am okay with that. I had an abundance of standard 13 gallon liners so have been using them rather than purchase special "D" shaped bags and they have worked fine.It's now been almost four years since I bought this trash can and it has worked perfectly ever since. Yes, it and its trash can liners are on the expensive side but one definitely gets what one has paid for and, to me, it's worth it. The overall design is excellent with good engineering and great durability.We've had this as our kitchen trash can for over 5 years, it still looks and functions great. We'll worth the money! My favorite thing is the inner plastic bin has holes in it, so when you put a new bag in you're not fighting the blocked air between the bag and the inside of the can. Love it!!Worth every penny. Breath of fresh air compared to my last trash can that didn’t open all the way. Even taking the full trash bag out is just better. Can’t describe it but the design is just yes. Love it so glad I pulled the trigger. My dogs were getting in the trash a lot and this also solved that problem!!! Love love love but it or never know what you’re missingI have had a smaller version of this Simple Human trash can since 2006. 16 years later it still works like the day I bought it. We bought the 45L for the kitchen and it’s great. I recommend this for anyone looking for a reliable trash can.I spent ages researching the perfect bin for the kitchen in our new house. We had a narrow space next to the patio doors which we needed to fit in a bin with capacity for recycling. My husband hated pedal bins as he always tripped on the pedal and I didn't like flip top bins as I think they can trap germs too easily, so we were at odds. I found this bin, the pedal is slightly tucked away, it fitted in the space and the butterfly opening meant it didn't bash into the wall every time we opened it. The slow open/shut mechanism also stops this problem.My main problem was the price - £150 for a bin, ouch! But I couldn't find anything as good, that ticked all the boxes, anywhere else. I admit to trying to find it cheaper elsewhere but I couldn't. So I held my breath and clicked buy. However, nearly two months later, I've never been so pleased with a bin. It has a large capacity so we only have to empty the non-recycling every fortnight - this saves on the bin liners (which fit perfectly btw). The recycling bin's capacity means that, even with squashed up 4 pint milk bottles, wine bottles and tins, we only have to empty it a couple of times a week, even at Christmas. Not bad I reckon for a 4 person family. It's also easy to keep clean, inside and out.Despite the price, I can thoroughly recommend this bin.This bin is amazing. I truly never thought I would say this, but I love this bin! Well worth the money. I also never thought I would spend that much on a bin. The recycling is now off our counter tops and in its own space! The bin size for the rubbish and the recycling are the same size bins. The recycling definitely fills up faster than the rubbish for us, but it's very easy to empty. We did use one of the liners in our recycling side to prevent the inside of the bin from getting filthy/wet from anything that has been rinsed but not dried enough or in case any of the rubbish splatters over. So far this has worked well. Surprisingly, we've received quite a few compliments on our bin as well. Highly recommend.This bin is excellent for the space I have - it fits and opens under the counter but is not so low that I have to bend to use it. It is quite large but has a slim profile so doesn't dominate and there's enough room to get a good quantity of both rubbish and recycling into each bin. A wheel at the back would be useful as it's slightly cumbersome to move. The bin bags provided (10) fit well and are sturdy. I am very pleased with the bin but would note that it came with a dent in the side (annoyingly, the side that is visible in the room!). The packaging wasn't damaged at all and the bin was well protected within the box so I can only assume, as other reviewers have commented, that this dent happened in the factory and that it was sent out like that. I'm not going to return it because it seems likely that any replacement might also be dented and it is largely a cosmetic fault. However, this is an expensive item and it should be in perfect condition when sent out and I'm disappointed. I've only had it a week so can't speak to its durability but the only bin to have survived the staff room in my workplace for more than a year is a simplehuman one so I have hopes that this one will last a long time.We bought this because we really liked an older model of the same thing and wanted a second one upstairs. The special bags fit it so well. When we bought the first one we thought we would use generic bags, but the free trial of the bags designed for this convinced us that they are worth using.The bin can be locked open easily, the lid closes nice and softly and the foot pedal is reliable. We've had cheaper bins where the foot pedal broke within a couple of years, our older one of these is still going strong many years later and we hope this one will be as good.No Shadow of a doubt this bin is top notch soft close with a Paddlefoot mechanism that will last me years to come well worth the money indeed but I have a problem with the way in which Amazon items are delivered now this bin came with a big dent in the side I don’t know if it was caused by the Company because it was in a box or if it was done by delivery handlers this is a big problem when Purchasing any big household appliances I find with amazon please put Fragile on packages and handle with some sort of care because it is truly disheartening when things come to you dented and broken if Amazon or the company can’t insure this then stop selling these big type of item eg sinks, steel bins, glasshobs, Plywood worktops etc you see where I’m going with this check item before it sent out please
